Can Eyesynth glasses restore the sense of sight of a blind person?

No. Eyesynth glasses are a helpful tool. They provide rich information, and increase independence and user interaction with the environment. They accurately represent visual information in the form of sound.

In NO case is the system capable of curing or alleviating symptoms of diseases or injuries of the eye.

Is Eyesynth a health or medical tool?

No. It’s an assistive technology.

Can Eyesynth replace the cane or guide dog?

The information provided by Eyesynth is much more complex and powerful than that provided by a cane in terms of level of detail and detection distance. However we always recommend using Eyesynth in conjunction with a cane. They are not self-exclusive. On the contrary, they complement each other. At the end of the day, a cane has no battery, and in some situations this can be helpful.

Regarding the guide dog, the concept is the same. Both make a perfect match.
In any case, it’s the responsibility of the user to use Eyesynth in a responsible way. We recommend using Eyesynth in conjunction with other support systems.

How long does it take to learn to use Eyesynth?

It depends on the user’s hearing ability and training. In the tests we have done, there are people who have mastered the system in hours. Others have taken a few days.

In general, learning is fast, but needs a period of adaptation.

Can everybody learn to use it?

Yes. In the tests performed we have not found personal limitations to using Eyesynth. It is a very intuitive system.

There are two factors that can make Eyesynth less effective: A very recent loss of vision requires a temporary period to re-adjust the other senses and improve orientation. Once these skills are acquired, Eyesynth is much more effective. The other limiting factor is hearing. Illness or injury of the inner ear can be a limiting factor when using Eyesynth.

I think the sound can be annoying. Is it possible?

Eyesynth, like other daily support devices (bifocal eyeglasses, hearing aids, everyday items) need time to adapt to. At first this can generate some discomfort, but this is temporary. The brain is a fantastic instrument, it learns to use the new tool and uses it automatically. As an example, when learning a new language we need to focus, it´s tough. We think what we mean, translate it in our mind and then speak. At first it’s annoying, but with practice, we think using the new language is natural and fluid.

The good news is that Eyesynth is a lot easier than learning a new language.

Is there a minimum or maximum age to learn?

No. Again, Eyesynth is a very intuitive system. We’ve tried it with children ten years old and with seniors. It´s recommended that minimum age users have psychomotor development. Language, movement and developed guidance are necessary to use Eyesynth.

What is the best way to learn?

The best way is to identify the sound of Eyesynth with known spaces. Your own home is the best training center. Knowing distances and locations of things makes it easier to calibrate the system.

Is Eyesynth only for people who are 100% blind?

No. We designed Eyesynth as a system that can also help people with low vision. The Panoramic Mode, for example can be very helpful to people with tunnel vision, analyzing the most lateral areas of the environment. Similarly, the Tracking Mode can be useful for people with low vision in the central zone, which is precisely the area that is analyzed in this way.
